Uncle Paul's Thoughts

Day Fifteen: 40-Day Journey of Gratitude (Part 2)

Today I am thankful for the gift of forgiveness and the lessons it has taught me.

Here are a few lessons that I have learned from forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a process that occurs over time. - Forgiveness doesn't happen overnight; it takes time to mend something that is broken.
Healing is part of that process, and we cannot rush it, it takes time and sometimes space

Forgiveness doesn't mean what happened was okay. - Forgiveness just says that I've made peace with the pain, and I am now, ready to let it go.

Forgiveness is not something I do for others it is something that I do for me. - You see, if I do not forgive, it is like being trapped in a jail cell of bitterness, serving time for someone else's crime. I have a choice in the matter, either I continue to dwell on the pain of the past, or I allow forgiveness to do its work and move on.

Forgiveness shows my strength. - It takes a strong person to face pain head-on, forgive, and move on.

Uncle Paul's Thought: Now is the time to forgive the ones that have hurt us and to forgive ourselves. If we continue to hold on to unforgiveness, we will continue to be locked up in our mental prison. You see, forgiveness says to the one that hurt us, I'm beyond your reach now. You no longer control my life. I will no longer allow you to deplete my energy. I choose to unlock the mental prison door that I have been locked behind. I declare and decree that my prison doors are now open, I reclaim my power, and I now give you to God, and I will never look back. If Jesus could forgive the very men nailing him to the cross, I guess, I can forgive you.  You are forgiven, and I am now free. I now give myself permission to celebrate, my new-found freedom. Let go, forgive and be free.

It's Just A Thought
